
After spending three summers as an intern with the firm and earning a B.Arch., cum laude from Syracuse University, Jeff joined Payette full-time in 1998. He won the 2005 National AIA Young Architects Award and has contributed to the firm’s projects with Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ohio Wesleyan University, MEDITECH and Biogen Idec. In addition to founding Payette’s Young Designers Core, which was awarded the national AIA Intern Development Program Award in 2002, Jeff is the founder of the Boston Society of Architects’ Mentoring Program and advises thesis students at the Boston Architectural Center.

What is equitable design?
Payette's Spatial Equity Research Group looks at design through the lens of social equity, diversity and inclusion. The design process revolves around the users, with equitable design strategies expanding upon that thinking by broadening the spectrum of users considered when designing a space.
Today's post is on Accessible Design. As a design process, accessibility allows for the explicit consideration of people with disabilities in product design, software design, web interface development and architecture. The design characteristics include facilitating independence for people with a variety of disabilities and emphasizing safety.
