Elizabeth joined Payette in 2019 as a Building Scientist. She previously has worked at Symmes Maini & McKee Associates as a Senior Associate, collaborating with architects and engineers to advance project sustainable performance. She also has past experience with KPFF Consulting Engineers in Los Angeles as well as the Massachusetts Highway Department. Liz received her Master of Science degree in Civil and Environmental engineering from Stanford University, as well as her Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Recently, PAYETTE was selected as 1 of 5 finalists for A Bauhaus Bathroom at the Gropius House, from 280+ submissions across 40+ countries.
Our proposal places a new public restroom beside the historic garage, treating it not as an object, but as part of the arrival sequence to the site. A straight wall organizes movement from the visitor center; a curved, translucent volume gathers entry, waiting, and turning before releasing visitors toward the house.
Inside, dark durable surfaces meet a luminous upper zone, drawing from Gropius’s own use of contrast, color, and diffuse light.
