Dan Gallivan
Promoted to Director of Information Technology

Dan joined PAYETTE in 2003 and is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the IT infrastructure of the firm, including the network and telecommunication systems. He is continually reviewing new technology options and has implemented numerous technological upgrades and improvements, including greening our data center by virtualizing 80% of the center and implementing a gigabit network infrastructure to support BIM. Dan also serves as a beta-tester for Autodesk, Microsoft and Trend Micro. Dan is a Microsoft Certified Professional and a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator. He received his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1994.

What inspires you?
Not to sound cliché, but I like to solve problems. If someone is wrestling with an issue, I want to be quick to lend a hand. Whether it’s a new challenge that has to be researched or if it’s something I have come across before, I welcome the opportunity. Knowing our Firm design spaces that make a difference in the lives of the people who inhabit those landscapes and spaces, means a lot. It gives overall focus on our Firm’s goal.

What is the best part of your job?
It is an exciting time to be involved in technology, ever evolving BIM applications, virtualization, mobile solutions and cloud-technologies. I like getting to play with “tech-sandboxes”, experiencing new applications, systems and ideas. Each day is different; never know what the new day brings for a new challenge.  

What is the most important thing you’ve learned so far?
Bed-side manners counts the most when helping people. Listen, understand their perspective, and develop a personal connection. If I don’t know an answer to a question, find the answer, never stop learning. Getting to work across many generations of co-workers, you get to experience and learn so much from each other, value those opportunities.

The sky is the limit: if you could work on anything, what would it be?
Developing ways technology can assist our Firm’s designs … a person enters a space, lighting and air temperature automatically adjust based on personal preference or adjust for the task they are about to perform. Large windows provide a connection to the outdoor landscapes or allow natural ventilation. There are opportunities for technology to influence and work with the design process; I’d like to see it grow into the life of the space.
