Fifth XiangYa Hospital Wins AIA/AAH 2015 Award

PAYETTE is pleased to announce the Fifth XiangYa Hospital has been awarded a 2015 AAH Design Award. The project won in the unbuilt category (Category C). See the press release from the AIA and learn more about the projects.

Located in ChangSha, China in the growing Tianxian district, the Fifth XiangYa Hospital is slated to anchor the developing community adjacent to Xianguling Park. The hospital is connected to the park, both physically and visually. The new 2,500-bed hospital will provide a new world class model for the delivery of healthcare in an integrated, efficient and uplifting environment. Each half of the campus is organized around a central concourse, along which all the clinical functions are organized. The meandering inpatient towers hover above it. Two levels of service functions and parking provide the operational base below ground.

The hospital in a garden concept is achieved successfully by integrating all of the major spaces into a network of open gardens, private courtyards and natural lighting. A major component to the design, the green space, is just as important and functional as the medical space itself. We have used the gardens, courtyards and Xianguling Park to provide areas for circulation, community function, staff areas and public movement. The gardens act as areas of respite as well as wayfinding elements, leading people to access points, elevator lobbies and amenities.
