We have a depth of experience planning and executing highly complex typologies such as imaging and pharmacies within existing facilities. We also understand the need to minimize downtime through strategic design that can be implemented in a phased manner. Our experience includes a wide variety of imaging related renovation projects for Massachusetts General Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, client relationships that have spanned nearly three decades. Most of these projects included the replacement and/or upgrade of complex imaging equipment including interventional imaging rooms, MRIs, CTs, X-Rays, nuclear imaging, LINACs and other high technology modalities.

project spotlight
Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Advanced Multimodality Image Guided Operating Suite
AMIGO is a groundbreaking clinical research facility and is the first time that an operating room has been linked to adjacent imaging suites, enabling the patient to remain in place while the machines—including a 33,000-pound MRI—move from one chamber to another while in the midst of a surgical procedure. Awards: AIA National Healthcare Design Award Innovations in Planning and Design Research 2013, Boston Society of Architects Healthcare Facilities Citation 2012.
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Advanced Surgery Center and Clinical MRI Addition 148 kBtu/SF
The new Advanced Surgery Center is the nation’s first translational research surgical facility housing both a movable overhead MRI and CT. The hybrid, interoperative suite expands research and clinical space to test new approaches to surgical procedures such as complex, real-time, image-guided surgery. Awards: Boston Society of Architects Healthcare Facilities Citation 2015.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Cell Manipulation Core Facility
This project challenged the team to create a home for researchers and technicians who are on the forefront of perfecting novel cancer treatments. We focused on humanizing the space by tempering the experience of stringent environmental controls, creating a lively, light-filled environment for occupants.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Molecular Cancer Imaging Facility
Located in an historic warehouse in Boston’s Seaport Innovation District, this renovation brings state-of-the-art radioisotope production to this satellite campus. The facility includes a new self-shielded PET-Trace cyclotron and its associated research laboratory with the potential to house up to a dozen radiation hot cells.
Massachusetts General Hospital, Assembly Row Imaging Center
A lean approach to imaging planning seeks to optimize operational efficiency while providing a more convenient, calming experience for patients. The design of the MRI suite also improves the staff operational efficiency by increasing the number of patients they are able to treat.
Yale New Haven Health, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and Westerly Hospital
As with many academic medical health systems across the country, YNHH has grown through the integration of regional hospitals to deliver state of the art patient care directly to communities across Connecticut and southwestern Rhode Island including the Cardiac Cath Lab and ED Expansion at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and the Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center at Westerly Hospital.
University of Alabama at Birmingham, Advanced Clinical Imaging and Cyclotron Research Center
The new Advanced Imaging and Cyclotron Research Center is located on the lower level of the building and includes clinical imaging with three PET-CTs, a PET-CT/MRI, ultrasound and PET-mammography.
