Stephanie joined Payette as an Architect in September 2017 and has over ten years of experience. Since that time, she has led the National Coast Guard Museum team, shepherding the design through a complex regulatory environment focused on developing unique resiliency strategies on the waterfront site. Before joining Payette, she was at Bruner/Cott where she worked on the Mass MoCA Museum and the Lesley University College of Art and Design. She holds her Master of Architecture degree from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science from Providence College.
Recently, PAYETTE was selected as 1 of 5 finalists for A Bauhaus Bathroom at the Gropius House, from 280+ submissions across 40+ countries.
Our proposal places a new public restroom beside the historic garage, treating it not as an object, but as part of the arrival sequence to the site. A straight wall organizes movement from the visitor center; a curved, translucent volume gathers entry, waiting, and turning before releasing visitors toward the house.
Inside, dark durable surfaces meet a luminous upper zone, drawing from Gropius’s own use of contrast, color, and diffuse light.
