Project Brief:
Greater Grove Hall Main Streets is seeking design services to explore how Boston’s small and irregular lots can be used to create new, human-scaled housing. The purpose of the project is to illustrate what types of alternative housing forms can realistically fit on these tiny parcels and how they can contribute to addressing Boston’s housing shortage.
The design effort will focus on creating conceptual examples for a range of tiny-lot housing models, including:
● Tiny homes (approximately 350–600 sq ft)
● Small single-family homes (600–1,200 sq ft)
● Micro-duplexes or two-unit infill buildings
● Micro triple-deckers suitable for 2,500–3,000 sq ft lots
● Cottage courts or clusters of 3–5 compact homes
● Modular or prefab units that can be placed efficiently on constrained parcels
● Accessory-style infill designed to blend with existing neighborhood character
