Our designs deliver inspiring, collaborative state-of-the-art science and research facilities. Over the past two decades these facilities have become increasingly interdisciplinary and adaptive. As buildings accommodate a more diverse spectrum of science over their lifecycles, simplicity of structure and flexibility of systems is critical. At the same time, diversity goes beyond functional flexibility. Research is both experimental and computational, and it is about culture as much as performance. Team sizes vary over time. Office shortages and informal gathering spaces can limit research as much as exotic, low-vibration or animal research core facilities. Payette’s benchmark database tracks key metrics to provide a starting point for right-sizing and standardization. We understand the complex tradeoffs and, through dialogue, we create lasting places for discovery.
Healthcare planning is the foundation of our nearly 90-year-old practice. We are passionate about adding value to the design process through analysis and discovery. Medical planning seeks opportunities for flexibility, adaptability and efficiency, providing solutions for both the present and the future. Our medical planning looks to the richness and complexity of the typical hospital program to create placemaking within the hospital with a focus on patient-centered care. The analytical tools utilized during the planning process include gaming, shadow studies, mock-ups and virtual and physical simulations. These tools inform the process and contribute to establishing user group consensus. Our long-standing relationship with the nation’s leading institutions allows us to work toward establishing best practices and leading technologies.
