The Plan provides a flexible framework to guide future development of Temple University’s Health Sciences Campus (HSC) in North Philadelphia, which includes 3.9 million SF and 3,300 parking spaces. The primary organizing devices are The Gateway and The Campus Green, which will provide a new public face and identity to the Health Sciences Center (HSC). They will reinvigorate student life and restore a sense of community to an impoverished area of North Philadelphia lacking amenities such as green space, vibrant and safe street life, viable retail and a suitable residential environment for professional and graduate students.

A green oasis in an urban desert, these new elements represents the first step in renewing the HSC campus and Temple’s investment in the surrounding community. The plan strengthens and enhances Broad Street as the spine of the campus, coupled with a major urban open space at its center. These fundamental urban gestures, coupled with new buildings clustered around the new campus green, will unify the campus and announce its presence along the primary arterial road of the city.
