30,000 GSF New Construction

This project was prompted by the failure of the original 1970s buildings’ façade of the medical school and hospital complex at the UMass Worcester campus. The project also provided UMass with the opportunity to establish a new identity and comprehensive wayfinding strategy for its signature medical campus.
A set of innovative technical strategies was developed to replace the façade, including the direct attachment of a unitized curtainwall system, which eliminated the need to relocate building occupants, and the attachment of a second layer of curtainwall, dramatically enhancing the thermal performance of the skin. The result is a dramatic transformation of the campus image and improved circulation patterns for the entire medical complex, all executed with minimal disruption to the ongoing clinical and educational activities.
