Built on the main University campus for the UMass Memorial Medical Center and the site of the University of Massachusetts of Medical School, the Ambulatory Care Center consolidated outpatient services that had been distributed across the University and the Memorial campuses. In addition to creating an ambulatory center, the project also gave physical identity to four Centers of Excellence including Cancer, Heart & Vascular, Diabetes and Orthopedic. Wayfinding is made easy with a simplified circulation system and orientation to the landscape.

The internal planning of the floors was built on efficient and patient friendly delivery of care with the creation of pods of exam rooms that allow for a team approach to the delivery of care. Pods are located in such a way to allow flexibility of assignment within the weekly schedule as well as allowing for incremental growth of departments in the future. Program space for research is dispersed through the building to allow for collaboration between clinicians and researchers.
