The Broadway Research Building completes the northwest corner of the block and provides a new front door and identity to the top-ranked School of Medicine along the main boulevard. It houses biomedical research laboratories, administrative headquarters, continuing education space and signature gathering spaces.

Occupying half the available site, the new building leaves an open space between itself and the neighboring institute. This "Floating Lawn" open space is widened toward the west to allow for an entrance forecourt with a vehicle drop-off on Broadway.

Light-filled laboratories are placed along the north side of the tower. Offices are clustered together in research "neighborhoods" along the south façade. This volume faces the floating lawn and its stepping façade provides offices with dramatic city views. Underneath the stepping form lies a glass concourse connecting the building entrance to a central assembly hall in the core of the complex. Inside the glass marquee resides a stack of two-story research lounges with spectacular city views.

The visual focus of the building is a cantilevered glass pavilion on the upper edge of the lawn, housing a bridge connecting the building to the rest of the medical school and a spacious public café, a major gathering space for the entire school and the epicenter of daily serendipitous exchanges.
