Our firm has recently had the opportunity to design our new work space, when we relocated our offices to a new space in one of Boston’s historic wharves. When selecting the new site for the firm, two factors were of paramount importance: maintaining proximity to South Station to promote public transportation and reorganizing the previous six floor office onto a single floor.

The design, intended to foster collaboration and cross-studio dialogue, has re-energized the spirits of the firm’s 140 architects, designers and staff. Our new office allows us to practice as a think-thank, promoting collaboration and inspiring innovation through direct human interaction.

The new fit-out has improved efficiency and sustainability and is poised to best leverage the firm’s collective intelligence. Rather than a traditional studio arrangement, the new, wide-open space functions as a laboratory and workshop, mirroring the firm’s roots as designers of complex buildings for medical and scientific research, healthcare and academic facilities. Open and accessible design pin-up alcoves, conference and meeting facilities, a library and a gallery were major drivers of the design.
