Joslin Diabetes Foundation - Boston, MA
Medical Research Facility

Originally designed and constructed to accommodate three additional floors, this building houses both inpatient and outpatient components, and a new central courtyard. This outdoor green space allows natural light to permeate an existing building where patients reside. This landscape area also serves as a healing space, where patients and families can enjoy an outside environment. The main circulation from a parking garage flows along the perimeter of the space and along the edges of the building’s lobby. Within 144,600 square feet of new space and 14,000 square feet of renovation, there are 71 beds for diabetes treatment and research, with a full complement of inpatient services. The clustering of 20 exam rooms around a central nursing station permits an efficient flow of patients and doctors.
