Wellesley College - Wellesley, MA Davis Museum and Cultural Center
The Davis Museum and Cultural Center, designed in collaboration with Rafael Moneo, is a facility comprising gallery space, a cinema, museum, administration offices, art storage, and support areas. It incorporates beautiful architectural spaces and natural lighting with sophisticated state-of-the-art museum conservation and environmental requirements and functional design of "back-of-house" areas. The building was designed to relate to Paul Rudolph’s 1961 Jewett Art Center, located beside it on campus. The Davis Museum, with its exterior plaza and adjoining monumental stairs, completes Rudolph’s procession of stairs and plaza to the main college quadrangle. The interior presents a unified view of the museum’s encyclopedic collection.
