Shakespeare & Company - Lenox, MA
Rose Village

The new Exhibition and Education Center includes a renovation of the old school buildings on the site. The architecture is a sequence of wings that are a stage set for the Rose Theatre. The roofscape backdrop and verdant landscape reflects the fabric of Banksyde London that surrounded the Rose when Shakespeare first performed there. The library will include a two story reading room, and computer study rooms overlooking exhibition space and the Rose Theatre. The exhibition space flows from the same gateway with a separate entrance, through a large lobby. The series of galleries arrive on stage at the Rose Theatre through a glazed connection to an underground gallery. Cholmley’s House and one wing of the Field House's 1900’s old barn building is used for dining and concessions. The house is a 1580’s recreation like the Rose based on the archaeological exploration of the actual site in London.
