Science Center

This new Science Center strengthens the undergraduate science program with major improvements to two existing science buildings and construction of a new addition, creating a single complex. A circulation spine includes a “Great Hall” from which students can access the six science departments. This hub and spoke concept allows each of the departments to face the Great Hall. The library’s location makes it the symbolic and literal focus of the Center and Great Hall. A symmetrical and classically detailed temple facade (inspired by the existing classical architecture) fronts an asymmetrical and curving brick wall that hints at a more contemporary interior. The skylit spine preserves the facades of the existing buildings as an interior arcade leading past the library’s front door to the Great Hall.
