University of Maryland - College Park, MD Chemistry Teaching Building
The 63,000 GSF Chemistry Teaching Building is a multi-story addition to an existing chemistry building at the University of Maryland at College Park. The facility is organized with three distinct components: a four-story addition to the existing facility, housing laboratories and classrooms, an elevated pedestrian bridge linking the new addition with an existing building, and a multi-story atrium space. The laboratories, located along the east and north sides of the building, are permeated with natural light. Each teaching laboratory module is state-of-the-art, with a bullpen of equipment and instruments, surrounded by student writing stations in direct proximity to fume hoods. The uniqueness of this configuration lies in the movable wall between laboratories, which allows full flexibility in laboratory size, for large teaching clusters, future growth, and overlapping monitoring and control. This project is a joint venture with Design Collective.
