Harvard University - Cambridge, MA
Maxwell Dworkin Laboratory

This design responds to Harvard’s need for a new Computer Science and Electrical Engineering facility to consolidate the teaching and research activities of its faculty. The building includes nearly 100,000 square feet of academic space on a constrained site. The design divides the building into manageable parts that respond to confined, oddly-shaped existing open space, helping to articulate the spatial organization. A brick exterior wall wraps the building to the north and complements the traditional structures on the adjacent quad. Facing the street, a lighter, more transparent façade of glass curtainwall and aluminum sunscreens celebrates the role of technology and discovery within the new building. The design also extends the boundary of the engineering precinct to the north while reinforcing the continuity between campus spaces to the east and west.
