Duke University - Durham, NC
Levine Science Research Center

The new science center is designed to encourage interaction among scientists from across the university. Duke’s Collegiate Gothic campus inspired the architecture of the new facility with an exterior of beige and gray pre-cast concrete accented by blue-painted steel. The building defines two new campus spaces: the School for the Environment courtyard and the main quad. An 800-foot-long arcade connects the two spaces. All of Duke’s science departments meet and merge at the main entrance lobby, the “Hall of Science,” which provides the shared amenities of a café, conference rooms, informal lounges, and a central stair. The auditorium and each science department have their own entry off this central space. A central cafe serves as a daily meeting place for faculty, students, and visiting scholars.
